Counseling vs.   Coaching –
What’s right for you?

What is the difference between Counseling and Coaching?

Counseling, also called therapy or psychotherapy, is a long-term process in which a client works with a healthcare professional to diagnose and resolve problematic beliefs, behaviors, relationship issues, feelings and sometimes physical responses. Counseling usually deals with issues from childhood or in the past. The idea behind counseling is to focus on past traumas and issues to change self-destructive habits, repair and improve relationships and work through painful feelings. In this sense, counseling focuses on the past and on introspection and analysis.

Coaching is a process which may be long- or short-term according to my clients specific needs and goals. In coaching, a client works with a qualified coach who is not a healthcare professional in order to clarify goals and identify obstacles to success and problematic behaviors in order to create action plans to achieve desired results. It takes the client’s current starting point as an acceptable neutral ground and is more action-based from that point onward.

How would your Coaching Program work with me?

I understand when anyone invests in something they want to see a return on their investment. People tend to see a qualified coach versus a therapist  or counselor because they want to see tangible results as an outcome of their investment of time, energy and money into the coaching process. Therefore during our Private Coaching sessions we will work together to set achievable goals, and we will make time to acknowledge and celebrate the small steps along the way. I also will ask for your feedback at the end of each session to make sure that you are achieving the results you want.

In both Private Video Coaching via Skype and In-Office Private Coaching I will do an initial assessment after reviewing your Intake Form and we will work toward your top goal(s). As we proceed with our sessions, I will give you home assignments to complete. And throughout this process I can adjust strategies to make sure we are on track with your goal(s) and you are getting the most out of each session.
